V. V. Ganeshananthan

Ganeshananthan grew up in the Washington, D.C. area to a family of Sri Lankan Tamil descent, studied at Harvard and the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, and later earned a journalism degree from Columbia; she now teaches in the MFA program at the University of Minnesota.

Her debut novel, Love Marriage, was longlisted for the Women's Prize. Brotherless Night, begun nearly twenty years before its 2023 publication, follows a young Tamil woman in Jaffna whose brothers and first love join the Tamil Tigers as civil war erupts around her; it won the Women's Prize in 2024.

She co-hosts the literary podcast Fiction/Non/Fiction and serves on the boards of the American Institute for Sri Lankan Studies and the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop.
